Business rules control relationships between feature types and thus implement the utility's data model at the time of placement (i.e., which feature types can be placed at which work locations). If a business rule prevents the designer from placing a selected feature type at a particular work location, Bentley OpenUtilities Designer displays a message explaining the violation.

If the designer chooses to disable all business rules for a feature, it can be placed at any work location. Additionally, if a feature type has been configured with multiple rules, the designer can enable or disable them on an individual basis.
